A fireback is a decorative antique plate made of cast iron. It is placed against the back wall of an open fireplace for decoration and to reflect the heat of the fire. If you have a wood stove, a fireback can also be placed behind the stove. Antique firebacks can also be used as a splashback behind a cooker or as wall decoration.
