Antique French Louis XV Circular Fireplace in White Carrara Marble

An antique French circular fireplace in white Carrara marble with soft grey veining, executed in the graceful Louis XV style. A fireplace with character and a beautifully hand-carved front.

The centre of the front is accentuated by a sculpted rocaille motif of undulating C-scrolls and foliage, sitting like a lively heart within the scalloped frieze. The corners rise into gracefully curling consoles, and the jambs are kept flat with a calmly moulded panel that draws attention to the carving at the centre.

The arched mantel shelf gives the fireplace a stately, layered silhouette and creates a fine play of shadow along the edges. The front has been broken in the past and expertly restored, as is common with many antique fireplaces. The repair has been carried out with care and takes nothing away from the beautiful line and appearance of the whole.
