Renzo van Engelen
A magnificent French antique fireplace in white Carrara marble, a classic example of the Louis XVI style, characterised by symmetry, refinement and artisanal detail. The front is decorated with a beautiful, recessed ornament at the centre: a quiver of arrows, surrounded by stylised foliage and ribbons, a typically neoclassical motif referring to strength and harmony. The front is cut from a thick block of marble; the chisel marks are still visible on the underside (see photo).
The consoles are set straight and subtly moulded, with decorative carving that emphasises the vertical lines of the fireplace. The side panels feature carefully applied carved detailing, which reinforces the detailing. Original brass ventilation grilles are integrated on either side, giving the fireplace an extra rich and authentic appearance. The multi-layered mantel shelf visually completes the design and adds a sense of stability.
